THE KINGS SPEECH .. looks like being a huge success
THE KINGS SPEECH George VI's very bad stammer - I cant help feeling sorry for him .....
trailer ....
"do
you know any jokes" ... "timing isn't my strong
suite" notice how the Queen joins in to support him (well documented fact .. not just put in for effect) and out of interest ... both Churchill and George VI got on very, very well "bloody good job too" I would say
George Vi was a good king (couldn't say that about his elder brother Edward VIII)
- greatly supported by his wife - who you know as the Queen mum
The unexpected abdication of Edward VIII created an urgent need to prepare designs for stamps to be ready for the coronation of the new King and Queen
penny ha'penny for a stamp !! (pronounced "hay-penny") (less than 1 new penny in today's money) current price for a first class stamp is 41 pence
thats a GREAT photo below !!!
A street party at Risinghill Street, Islington, London, to celebrate the coronation of George VI on 16 May 1937 to the right of the largest flag you can see many "pearly kings & queens"
I love the coloured photo - we had a wall just like that! - I remember the brick at the end fell off
